Ray Soto is a Managing partner of DGR Investments.
In the early 1970’s Ray’s father, Bob was buying houses, rehabbing them and helping struggling families to become homeowners. Ray was very interested in this endeavor and on many occasions was right there helping with renovation of the houses.
Just out of high school, Ray knew he was going to do something regarding real estate and while helping his dad he developed a more expansive vision for the future, but he knew he lacked the leadership skills to make that happen. After several years in the concrete industry, a close friend called with an offer to make Ray a manager at a lumber company. Ray found this challenge as intriguing as the construction business was, and he jumped at the chance. Two years after joining the lumber company, Ray was promoted to Superintendent. He was now in charge of operations, overseeing millions of dollars in inventory, and making sure margins and inventory turns were always met as projected to keep the center profitable.
Ray stayed with the lumber company until 1996 when he submitted his resignation to start his own construction business. In three short years after starting his construction company it had grown to 6 full time employees, 30 sub contractors and yearly sales over $2 million. Ray took all his management skills and brought them back to the construction company, working hard to continue to grow the business.
In 2009 when Ray realized the economy and new home sales were in a down turn, he knew he had to change the business model from building new homes to what his dad was doing in the 70’s – buying and rehabbing existing homes. But this time it also meant trying to keep people in their homes, not just helping people buy homes.
This vision crystallized in Ray’s head, but in early 2010 Ray realized he could not do it himself. While at a Chamber of Commerce meeting, he took a moment to explain the business plan to fellow Director Glenn Strovilas. Glenn told Ray that he loved the plan and contacted his business partner Dennis McCormick. Both Dennis and Glenn were successful business men and they brought their unique vision and finances to the project. Together they decided that they could not only get abandoned properties back on a positive track, but also help families who needed a chance to become – and remain — home owners in a very difficult economic recession.
Once Dennis, Glenn, and Ray realized the potential of what this could do for buyers, sellers, municipalities and neighborhoods DGR Investments, LLC (DGRI) was formed. Since May 2010, DGRI has purchased more than a dozen single family homes, completely updated and remodeled each one and has given hope to families for ownership in 2 to 3 short years as a rent to own home. Their goal is dynamic and their vision is endless. They receive numerous calls daily from new potential homeowners wanting to know if they have additional homes available or if DGRI can help them realize their dreams to own and hold onto their own home.
The DGRI business motto is…
“Investing in homes – one family at a time”
